Monique Renee

Niece to singers of 70’s R&B/funk group New Birth, Sappho’s Journey (Monique-Renee) has the voice of an angel and the soul of a true musician. Despite what one would expect, Monique draws her influences from artists like Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Bjork, and Incubus. Having been taught to sing by her mother at a very early age to the tunes of Chaka Khan and Teena Marie, Monique dedicated a year to studying opera and musical theater courses upon finishing high school. After moving to New York in 2004 and making her rounds in the indie rock scene, Monique has decided to venture out with a combination of shining soul, electronica, and new/dark wave. The melodies and beats on her debut EP Venerate put the listener in a trance with the promise of something new- a sound that has never been heard before.
